Reading James Joyce

By God, I'm going to try one more time to actually read Ulysses by James Joyce, with the idea of finishing it by St. Patrick's Day (so I'll have a cut-off date at which to give up if I don't make it by then).  The last time I tried to read Joyce, I made it to something like page 17 before my eyes rolled into the back of my head.  Not unlike Marilyn Monroe, I find the book "hard going."

Saints preserve us.

You're going to read Ulysses in 9 days?? You'd be my all-time literary hero if you can pull that one off! ;)

I think I've pretty much set myself up for failure--yesterday, I was thinking, "Hey, I used to read a hundred pages of MIDDLE ENGLISH a week in college! How hard could Joyce be?" Last night it occurred to me that (a) I'm no longer in college and have this unfortunate thing called a "job," and (b) this weekend is the St. Patty's Day Parade and I'll be too busy toasting the Irish to be reading them.

Ulysses in a week?! What a venture!!

Ulysses has been kept aside as my 'pregnancy project' for if or when I ever get pregnant!

Hi Bethany, thanks for your comment! I'm nothing if not ambitious, and sometimes I have more great ideas than sense. :)
